The Anorectal Diseases in Korean Adult Males

Abstract
The clinical observation was carried out on 695 cases of various anorectal diseases in the health survey series of 5,746 adult males employed in the Korea Electric Company.
1. The incidence of the anorectal diseases ¢¥revealed in the order of the hemorrhoids, anorectal polyps.
prolapsus ani, anal abscess, anal fistula and anal fissures. The hemorrhoidal diseases held 76.1 per cent.
2. The picked age distribution of the anorectal diseases was in the third decade. The average age of this
health survey series was 34.7 years, ranging from 21 years, the youngest to 55 years, the oldest.
3. The anorectal disease cases in 26.3 per cent were complicated with the hypertension accounting for about
30 percent of the hypertensives in the same health survey series.
4. An observation of the intestinal infestation in relation to the anorectal diseases was performed.
5. The incidence of anorectal diseases in the officers engaged themselves in sedentary occupation formed
86.2 per cent, comparing to 13.8 per cent in the streetcar drivers and conductors, non-sedentary,
6. The relationship of personal habits and anal hygienes to the anorectaI diseass was observed. Another detailed clinical observation was done on cases of the hemorrhoidal ;diseases which showed 76.1
per cent of the various anorectal diseases.
(1) The internal hemorrhoids were more frequently appeared than the external ones, in the ratio of 2.4 to 1. Combined type of the hemorrhoi daldiseases held 17.7 per cent.
(2) The hemorrhoidal diseases were most frequently distributed to the range from 31 to 35 years of age in this health survey series.
(3) The lapse of onsets of the hemorrhoidal diseases was 3.2 years.
(4) The manifesting Symptoms in our survey series of the hemorrhoidal diseases were palpable pile,
constipation, anal pain, anal bleeding or blood tinged stool, rectal tenesmus and anal protrusion on defecation.
(5) The predilection of hemorrhoids was 7 and 11 o¢¥clock directions in the right and 4 o¢¥clock direction in
the left side of the anal canal. Single hemorrhoid was preponderant in our survey series.
(6) The venous engorgement type of hemorrhoids was twice more than the thrombotic ones.
(7) The modified Nesselrod¢¥s method in the treatment of hemorrhoidal diseases showed relatively good results in comparison with the other methods. The importance of case selection in the surgical intervention by whitehead¢¥s method in the treatment of hemorrhoids was discussed.
